Development of the prototype robotic vehicle ALE (UNISTEP Project 1st Phase)

The Innovative Action 'INCUBATOR OF IDEAS OF UNIVERSITY STUDENTS' - UNISTEP is implemented within the Regional Program of Innovative Actions 'CRINNO - Crete Innovative Region'. The action aims to create a favourable environment for the development of University Student Entrepreneurship. The program is implemented by the Technical University of Crete (TUC), the Foundation for Research and Technology / Scientific and Technological Park of Crete (FORTH/STEP-C) and the University of Crete (UOC).

IS&RL participated in the 1st phase of the UNISTEP Innovative Action, and as a result the autonomous robotic vehicle ALE was developed during the period July 2004 until March 2005. ALE is an autonomous robotic vehicle, modular, reprogrammable and expandable, able to serve educational and research needs. ALE can easily become a competitive commercial product.

The main characteristics of ALE are:

  • compact dimensions and low-cost
  • user friendly environment with reprogrammable central processing unit
  • ability to use different kinds of sensors
  • wireless telecommunication with remote PC or other ALE
  • 2 hours of autonomous operation
